Dive watch. How to choose

There are a number of watches for divers and aqualungers, but not all of them meet professionals' criteria perfectly. What should you first focus your attention at?

Besides diving computer, every diver takes a diving watch, which serve not only as a second control system, but also can be vital during emergency situations, when electronics suddenly fails to function.

What are the requirements to real diving watch, what their functionality and reliability should be?

The body must have high strength and should be made of thick steel or titanium (Porsche Design, and Sector), or even be a coherent shell (TAG Heuer).

The watch must also have a tightly screwed head, back cover with thread and sealing elements. The winder is to be of such size that it was convenient to use, even in diving gloves. Some manufacturers of such watches specifically removed the head with its usual place in front of the number 3, to avoid damage. For example, it is used in Citizen, Ikepod and Sinn watches. It is also important that glass was made of sapphire; this will prevent damage against rocks and reefs.

Watch can provide water resistance to 100 meters, and many professional ones even more. For example, TAG Heuer and Sector watch companies withstand a depth of 1000 meters. As sunlight does not penetrate to such a depth, it is necessary to provide watch with additional light sources or specific chemical sputtering, which glows in the dark. Indication should be applied on arrows, graduation and figures, to be read easily and accurately, even in the dark under the water at a distance of 25 cm.

Dive watches must undergo a severe test for a range of influences and factors, as well as 100% standards compliance. They must withstand pressure and temperature changes, exposure to cold and salt water.

Should be tested for shock and reliability of fastening mechanism.

Watch must work flawlessly, because sometimes human life depends on it.
